George Soros berkata…

Mr. Soros sez: Kayanya engga mungkin deh. Soalnya korupsi di Indonesia masih terlalu tinggi, meskipun ga separah dulu.

Then he talked about how bad "dulu" was.. He had to pay 20% (?) interest to the Suharto family, and so he became "squeamish" and withdrew. Not that George Soros is really a squeamish person..

Q: Banyak orang di Indonesia accuses you as the reason behind the economic downturn (I dont remember the exact words) and the fall of the government. How do you respond to this?

Mr. Soros sez: NOT my fault. I just happen to be in the winning position. Bukan salah saya dong, banyak kok orang lain yg kayak saya.

Q: Okay i forgot what the question was.. I think he was asked about his opinion on Indonesia’s current condition. Is it still as vulnerable as it was in 1997?

Mr. Soros sez: tetep vulnerable lah. Indonesia kebanyakan foreign capital. Our country ga punya posisi yang kuat, mesti nurut mulu. Ah..

(all these are based on the panel discussion at UI on Dec 13th, 2006)

ps: a little reminder, i am not an expert in economy. Don’t held my writing too responsible. However, George Soros did say something similar to what i wrote above. Peace ;p
